About

Arcadia Street is a showcase for original illustrations and photography by Walter B. Myers. The illustrations endeavor to present scientifically accurate scenes from the Earth and worlds beyond.

Artist's Statement

In creating these images of the Earth and other worlds, I try to adhere as closely as possible to what is known about these environments, while at the same time making something nice to look at. My goal is to, at the very least, recreate an impression of what a human visitor to one of these exotic worlds or eras would experience, if not actually see.

These images attempt to capture the essence of space as wilderness; the many and varied worlds beyond the Earth are pristine examples of the sublimity and elegance of nature’s laws. The fact that we can draw pleasure from this aesthetic serves to remind us of our intimate connection to the universe around us.

-- Walter B. Myers

Accuracy

Whenever Walter embarks on a new graphic, he refers to as much of the available data and photographs as possible.

Walter was born in Indiana in the USA just a few months following Sputnik One's entry into Earth orbit. He now lives near Chicago and is a freelance computer graphics artist.

Walter's been a space enthusiast and interested in astronomy ever since he first looked to the sky as a child. His vocations have included graphic artist, photographer, computer programmer, web designer, instructional designer, and projected media designer. His space art strives toward photorealism, hopefully with the resultant image being more interesting and informative than anything a still camera can produce.

Walter is an artist member of the International Association of Astronomical Artists (IAAA).
