Deinotherium & African Elephant compared

An adult Deinotherium from 7 million years ago is compared to a modern adult African Elephant (genus Loxodonta). The Deinotherium is 16 feet tall at the shoulder and weighs 17,000 pounds*, while the African Elephant is 11 feet tall at the shoulder and weighs 10,000 pounds.
